Energy Efficiency Law (EnEfG):
This law requires companies and public bodies with an annual average final energy consumption of over 7.5 GWh to introduce an energy management system (EMS) or EMAS. Conversely, it allows electricity-intensive companies to apply for a 'special equalisation scheme' to limit surcharges on electricity prices. The aim is to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Requirement for environmental offsets:
To claim financial benefits as part of a compensation application under the Carbon Leakage Ordinance (BECV) or when applying for electricity price compensation (SPK), peak equalisation or special equalisation schemes (BESAR), the introduction of an EMAS or energy management system is required under certain conditions.

Additionally, this system supports the data management necessary to fulfil the requirements of the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act (KrWG), and the Ordinance on the Security of Energy Supply (EnSimiMaV).
