Pioneering for Sustainability in the Chemical Industry
Standardized PCF Calculation, Secure Supply Chain Data Exchange and Measurable Emissions Success

Together for Sustainability (TfS) is a global non-profit association of  > 60 leading companies committed to creating sustainable, transparent supply chains in the chemical industry. One of TfS goals is to understand, measure, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all business levels, guiding the entire industry toward a future-oriented and climate-friendly value chain.

Challenge: The urgency of transparent GHG data collection and reporting

The chemical industry is responsible for 7% of global greenhouse gas emissions – with 77% of these emissions falling under Scope 3.1, i.e., originating within the value chain. Increasing regulatory requirements and societal expectations have amplified the need for accurate, comparable, and exchangeable GHG emissions data.

Companies face key challenges:

  • Limited transparency across the supply chain
  • No standardized methodology for PCF calculation
  • Inefficient or inconsistent data exchange practices

TfS aimed to close this gap by establishing a unified approach for PCF calculation and creating a secure, efficient platform for exchanging emissions data across the value chain, empowering companies to actively pursue and achieve their climate goals.

Project approach: Working together for a sustainable future

In collaboration with TfS and partners such as SiGreen (Mattermaps), we supported the development of an end-to-end approach to PCF calculation and exchangeboth technically robust and organizationally scalable. Our contribution included:

  • Support in developing a standardized methodology for calculating Product Carbon Footprints for chemical products, aligned with ISO 14067 and the GHG Protocol
  • Support in building the “PCF Exchange Solution”, enabling aggregation and secure company‑to‑company exchange of PCF data across the value chain
  • Support in enabling real‑time monitoring of emissions from both the company itself and its suppliers via the PCF Exchange Platform.

Long-Term Collaboration and Strong Partnerships

The long-standing collaboration and knowledge sharing among 57 companies and over 200 professionals from different fields turned the project into a true success story. Numerous online and in-person meetings and workshops across Europe helped develop solutions tailored to the specific needs and challenges of the chemical industry.

Result: Measurable progress toward PCF transparency

  • PCF Guideline : The industry benchmark for standardized, comparable, and actionable PCF data

  • PCF Exchange Solution(leveraging SiGreen) – Secure PCF data exchange and intelligent emissions management across supply chains

  • Industry-wide rollout: Scalable implementation supported by structured project management, driving PCF transparency across the sector

A future-ready and climate-friendly chemical industry

Thanks to the successful collaboration with TfS and the participating companies, we have contributed to the developmentof a solution-oriented platform that not only brings more transparency to Scope 3 emissions in the chemical industry but also paves the way for a more sustainable and climate-friendly future. The introduction of the PCF Guideline and the PCF Exchange Solution marks another milestone toward a future-proof, sustainable industry contributing to the achievement of the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.
